Dearest Family,
I am back at school; the Gambles got us here Tuesday. Visiting Riga was fun, but nothing was more fun than soaring aloft in the Schoneluft, dyeing eggs to match Ulrik’s hair.
Mother, thank you so much for your valuable advice. I have decided to go with an aero-quality silk from the Grandmothers, which they’ve strengthened somehow with mica. It’s still light enough for the frame, but from the little Mandarin and hand gestures I understand, I think it’s fireproof. Either that, or vinegar-proof. Mrs. Wei was brewing vinegar, and I may have become confused by the heady aroma. Don’t worry, I’ll test it in the lab before I affix it to the frame.
Father, I am ever so grateful for the welding crash course over Easter Hols! I’ve taken over a corner of the fabrication hall and have been roaring at it all week. I’m pleased with the shoulder joints especially.
I’ll let you know how my tests progress. I’ll be able to take off right from my window – that gives me plenty of fall in which to perfect my technique, or employ the parachute you were so thoughtful as to provide!
Give my love to the children, and do reassure Ulrik that his green waistcoat sets off the purple hair admirably.
love,
Philomena
