The utility belt seems to be fulfilling its purpose well. I love the thigh high spats: what is holding them up?

  • Fearless Fabricator says:

They are made out of canvas duck and backed with heavy felt. The felt in spats does two things, it stiffens the construction and two provides greater friction with whatever is worn beneath. Madame usually prefers a white lace top stocking with a firm fit. If the out fabric is lighter in weight. I would recommend that a middle layer of canvas to stiffen the spat and perhaps a medium weight of felt for ease of sewing with the three layers.
Upholstery, canvas, and heavy wool fabrics works well for two layer construction.
